The Chase Manhattan Lending Library, in operation at its mortgage center in Monroe, Louisiana, manages training
materials used by Chase Manhattan employees. The automated library delivers books, training manuals, language
courses, videos, cd's and tapes, and a wide range of educational and training materials. Approximately 150 different
products are a part of the library's inventory.
Chase Manhattan employees access the materials available at the library by entering their employee identification
number and then choosing to view the available materials from the large "user friendly touch screen." The touch screen
has super vga graphics and full motion video. It has voice and sound interaction and operates much the same as the
touch screen used by Compu Shop in its automated hotel gift shops Using the Hotel Gift Shop Touch Screen When
employees have chosen the product they wish to rent, the product is immediately delivered by the automated library.
When the employee has finished using the materials they have rented, the rental process is reversed and the automated
library returns the materials to its inventory. The library inventory is available to employees 24 hours a day by simply
touching the screen to begin the rental process.
The lending library provides daily, weekly and monthly reports available to Chase management which records the
library inventory, the employee use of materials, the material currently on loan, the employee who currently is using any
material and the date materials are due back at the library. Chase management has indicated that the "automated
library" has tripled employee use of training and educational materials. The automated library has proven its reliability
to deliver and return products "automatically" 24 hours a day.
The standard dimensions of the "lending library" is a length of 8 feet, a height of 8 feet and a depth of 3.5 feet.
Customized installations can be installed provided additional space is available.
